GymTerps Victorious in Texas, Earning Nelligan his 100th Win

This weekend Maryland Athletics was firing on all cylinders, as Terps Gymnastics placed first in the tri-meet against Brown and Texas Womens University this Sunday in Denton, TX.

The victory gave the six year head coach Brett Nelligan his 100th win with Maryland, as the team scored a season high of 195.525, while Brown and Texas Women’s University scored 194.275 and 193.300, respectively.

The Terps remained strong and consistent in every junction of the meet. Starting off on the first rotation with bars, Stephanie Giameo tallied a season high 9.900 to take the beam crown, while Sarah Faller (9.750) added to the Terps total of 48.675.

On the second rotation, Giameo and junior Kathy Tang recorded a 9.800 that would get them a share of the floor title. Senior Shannon Skotchko’s 9.75 helped the Terps crusade to a 48.750 on the floor.

Maryland stayed hungry and tenacious on the Vault, tying a season high 49.150 with spectacular performances by Abbie Epperson (9.850) while Trotter set a career high of 9.825, a score no Terp fell under on the apparatus.

The Terps sealed the win on the bars, led by bars title winner Karen Tang (9.900), Maryland tied a season high 48.950 on the event.

This was the second consecutive meet Tang has recorded a 9.900 on the bars, while Epperson (9.825), Fahler and Kathy Tang (9.750 each) greatly contributed as well.

With this milestone win for both Nelligan and his team, the Terps move to 11-5-1 on the season and 3-3 in Big Ten conference play.

The GymTerps will take on Bridgeport, William & Mary and Southern Connecticut for ‘Senior Day’ on March 8th at 2 p.m.
