After beating Minnesota in their first ever Big Ten meet, the Maryland Terrapins women’s gymnastics team faced off against another conference rival Saturday afternoon when they took on No. 13 ranked Penn State in University Park, Pa.

In their first away meet of the season the Terrapins fell to Penn State. Penn State placed first in the team standings with a total score of 196.550. While the Terps scored a season high 194.450 in the team standings, they ultimately could not defeat the Nittany Lions.

Despite the team’s loss, many of the Terps shinned in the individual events. Freshman Abbie Epperson placed in the top three in both Vault and Uneven Bars. Epperson’s score of 9.850 for the vault was a personal best and she tied for second place along with Maryland senior Katy Dodds. Epperson again scored a personal best on the uneven Bars with a score of 9.825. Over on the balance beam, sophomore Stephanie Giameo placed third with a score of 9.850.

Maryland will look to regain a winning record in the Big Ten when they travel to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes Friday night.
