Men’s Soccer Ends in Draw with Michigan State

By Daniel Chavkin

In their first Big Ten road game of the year, Maryland’s men’s soccer team came away with a scoreless tie at Michigan St. This is Maryland’s second scoreless tie in three games, and fourth overtime game in their past seven games.

Junior goalie Cody Niedermeier netted his third straight shutout and fourth on the season. Niedermeier faced 16 total shots by Michigan St., six of which he saved.

However, the Terrapin offense continued to struggle as much as their defense shined. While they, too, were able to total 16 shots, only two were shots on goal. In addition, Michigan St. goalie Zach Bennett only needed to save one shot in 110 minutes of game time.

Senior midfielder Mael Corboz led the team in shots with four, while freshman forward Sebastian Elney came in second with three shots. In addition to Niedermeier, six men played the entire game, including Corboz all four defensemen.

Maryland is now 3-1-3 on the year as they get ready to face Georgetown in Washington D.C on Wednesday.
