A bit of a slow start for the Maryland women’s lacrosse team gave way to a decisive victory as the Terps went on to beat the Georgetown Hoyas 12-3 on Wednesday evening.  The win keeps the team’s record unblemished at 11-0 on the season and at the top of the national rankings.

Five Terps contributed goals, Taylor Cummings with four, Megan Whittle with four, Brooke Griffin with two, and Zoe Stukenberg and Taylor Hensch each with one.  Cummings also had five assists, totaling an impressive nine points in the game.  Whittle completed her sixth hat trick of the season.

After Stukenberg opened the scoring with 16:52 left in the first half, Georgetown scored their first of the game about four minutes later.  The Terps answered quickly with a goal from Griffin less than a minute later.  The team went on to score three more goals for a 5-1 lead at the half.

Cummings opened the second half with a goal at 27:00, which was followed by a goal by Whittle less than 30 seconds later.  The Hoyas finally answered the Terps’ run with a goal at 21:26.  Maryland scored two more, one from Whittle at 20:22 and one from Cummings at 18:47, before Georgetown picked up their final goal of the game at 12:23.  Cummings scored less than a minute later at 11:57, and Hensch finished the scoring at 7:41 for the final score of 12-3 over the Hoyas.

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Alex Fitzpatrick made six saves in the game.

Maryland will face Rutgers on Saturday, April 4 at noon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.  This will be the first Big Ten home game the Terps has hosted.
