Maryland softball took two of three games from Indiana this weekend, winning the first game of a Saturday doubleheader in addition to Sunday’s game, while losing the second game of the Saturday doubleheader.

Maryland’s offense went from solid to good to outstanding in the three games this weekend, scoring six runs in the first game, eight in the second and 21 runs in the final game.

Kaitlyn Schmeiser led the way for the Terps in the series, notching her 16th and 17th wins of the season.  She pitched her eighth complete game of the season in game one, striking out eight and allowing three runs, two of them earned. In game three she went 5.1 innings and struck out four while allowing five runs.

Schmeiser leads the team in ERA by a large margin at 3.09. Brenna Nation is second on the team with a 4.78 mark.

Nation pitched the second game of the series and went three innings, allowing two earned runs in addition to three unearned runs.

Defense was a problem for the Terps this weekend. The Terps committed three errors in game one and four in game two. They currently rank second in the Big Ten in errors.

Catcher Shannon Bustillos carried the offense in game one with a solo home run and four RBI’s, accounting for two-thirds of the Terps’ offense in the game.

Leftfielder Erin Pronobis starred for the Terps in their game-two loss, going 4-for-4 with a home run, three singles and four RBI’s.

Lindsey Schmeiser went 4-for-5 in game three with a double and three singles. She also drove in three runs and scored twice.
