The No.15 Maryland Terps beat Princeton 15-0 on Friday, Mar. 13 in their home opener. With this win, Terps baseball is 10-4 overall.
After a scoreless first two innings, junior Anthony Papio started the terps off strong with a solo homer to left. Hits from Kengo Kawahara and Kevin Smith, combined with a walk from Brandon Lowe gave Maryland a 2-0 lead. Kevin Martir advanced both runners with a single, before Jose Cuas hit a bases-clearing double to give the Terps a 5-0 lead at the end of the 3rd.
Following the eventful 3rd inning, Maryland continued to stack on runs, plating one in the 4th, four in the 5th, two in the 6th, one in the 7th, and two in the 8th, for a final score of 15-0. Papio finished the game with a career-high four hits. Sophomore RHP Mike Shawaryn threw seven strong innings with 11 strikeouts to take the win.
