Maryland football is shining bright in the early stage of this 2022 season.

Maryland, off to a 3-0 start, has revealed to impose one of the more dangerous offenses in college football’s entirety.

If this past Saturday’s 34-27 win against Southern Methodist University provided any lessons, it’s that the running attack is crucial. Roman Hemby’s dominance for the Terps paved the way for success.

The redshirt freshman had 213 all-purpose yards with one touchdown against the Mustangs.

As a result, Maryland’s 6.2 yards per carry leads the Big Ten.

When asked if he was surprised by this production, Locksley said, “I’ve quietly been confident in this group…if you look at those guys coming out of high school, they are all talented highly-recruited guys that we’re very fortunate to be able to get.”

Even with an impressive running attack, the strength offensively derives from Dontay Demus Jr., Rakim Jarrett, Jacob Copeland, and Jaeshaun Jones. CBS Sports ranked this four-headed monster as the third best receiving room in the country, trailing only Ohio State and USC.

Jarrett says what makes their group so special is the unique skill-sets that they each possess.

“Dontay is more a down-the-field guy, Jacob is strong, over-the-middle, can do it all, and I’m more so the quick underneath guy…and of course Jaeshaun, he has the moves and the hips.”

Maryland enters week four of the season averaging just under 500 yards of offense a game. Coach Lockseley’s squad also has the highest completion percentage in the country (78.3) and has scored points every single trip to the red zone in the first three games.

Looking ahead to Saturday, the Terrapins open conference play in Ann Arbor against the number four ranked Michigan Wolverines. This will be the biggest test of the season up to this point for the Maryland football program, looking for their first win in the Big House since 2014.

Can the offense sustain its dominance? Will penalties once again give trouble to this team? Only time will tell what’s in store for Maryland as they embark on a rigorous schedule.
