The Maryland Terrapins field hockey team beat the Ohio State Buckeyes 5-2, extending their win streak to seven games straight on Friday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio.
Less than one minute into the game, senior defender Sarah Sprink scored the first goal of the day. Sprink scored off of a penalty corner by senior forward Anna Dessoye.
Eleven minutes later, freshman forward Linnea Gonzales scored the Terps’ second goal of the game and her ninth goal of the season. Senior forward Welma Luus had the assist.
Before the end of the first half, Maryland collected its third goal of the game, this time by redshirt junior Emma Rissinger with the assist from Dessoye.
Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Holliday started in goal for the Terps, giving up two goals and earning one save.
Sprink scored off a penalty corner once again in the second half, with the assists from Rissinger and Dessoye, Dessoye’s third assist of the game.
With fifteen minutes to go Luus scored the Terps’ fifth and final goal of the game, sophomore defender Carrie Hanks had the assist. The goal was Luus’ seventh on the season.
Friday’s win advanced the No. 8 ranked Terps to 9-3 on the season. They remain undefeated in the Big Ten (4-0). Maryland will take on the Miami Redhawks on Sunday at 12 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio.
