The Terrapins traveled to Minneapolis on Wednesday, seeking to put an end to their eight-game losing streak and end their season on a positive note.
The 11th ranked Golden Gophers of Minnesota had other plans, taking a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute behind the goal of junior forward Julianna Gernes. They carried a 2-0 advantage into halftime and never looked back.
Minnesota netted four second-half goals to dispatch the Terrapins by a final of 6-0. Maryland has now been shut out in six consecutive games.
Next year, Chelsea Jackson, Jarena Harmon and Darby Moore, among other key players will return for Maryland. Minnesota’s season is far from over, as the Golden Gophers have earned themselves a spot in the Big Ten tournament. They’ll have the NCAA tournament to look forward to after that as well.
Meanwhile, the Terps’ rebuilding phrase continues. They’ve added a crucial year of experience and will look to improve in 2017 after their second consecutive last place finish in the Big Ten with a final record of 3-15-1.
