Did anyone really expect Maryland to falter in their home opener against their first Big Ten opponent? We didn’t think so, and I’m guessing the guys in the white jerseys on Sunday did not either. For what was a close game at one point, ended up in a total blowout as Maryland made a huge statement in Big Ten lacrosse defeating Michigan 13-4 for their sixth straight victory and second straight 13-4 win.
The Terps were led by Matt Rambo, who recorded his fourth hat trick this season as Maryland got off the same number of shots (21), in the first half as did the Wolverines the entire game.
Terps’ goalie Kyle Bernlohr held Michigan to just three goals and the Maryland defense stifled the oncoming Michigan offensive, never allowing them to get more than seven shots in a single period.
With this win the Terps move to (8-1) on the regular season and start off (1-0) in the Big Ten. The Michigan Wolverines drop to (4-5) on the regular season and open up Big Ten play (0-1). Maryland’s next game is at 3:00 p.m. this Saturday as they host Big Ten rival Penn State at Byrd Stadium.
