A strong start from right-handed pitcher Brayden Ryan and five home runs from the Maryland offense powered the Terps past Mount St. Mary’s, 10-3, Tuesday afternoon at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.

The Terps (17-21, 4-11 Big Ten) opened the scoring in the first inning with a three-run home run by first baseman Hollis Porter. Elijah Lambros and Brayden Martin followed with solo shots in the second and fourth innings.

Maryland broke the game open in the eighth. Senior Jacob Orr led off the inning with a solo home run — his third of the season. Following an error and a walk, Eddie Hacopian launched a three-run shot extending the Terps lead to nine.

Maryland finished with 11 hits and five walks. Five players homered and Hacopian led with three RBIs.

The lineup’s dominant hitting provided a cushion for redshirt sophomore Ryan to flourish on the mound.

The right-hander earned his second win of the season. He completed seven innings of one-run ball. Ryan allowed five hits, two walks but struck out four Mount St. Mary’s hitters. Ryan faced 28 batters and recorded 14 outs on balls in play.

Sophomore right-hander Jack Wren pitched the final two innings. He allowed two solo home runs, gave up two hits and struck out four. In all, the Terps struck out 15 batters and committed one error.
Mount St. Mary’s (14-21, 7-8 MAAC) scored on three solo home runs from first baseman Bryce Rudisill, third baseman Ty Fredo and outfielder Evan Meier. The Mountaineers committed three errors and left seven runners on base.

Maryland will resume Big Ten play this weekend with a three-game road series at Indiana, beginning Friday in Bloomington.
