Minnesota Doubleheader:
Maryland dropped both games of a doubleheader against Minnesota on Saturday. Sophomore Taylor Krapf led the way for the Golden Gophers, homering twice and batting 6-for-6 over the series.
Krapf was simply on fire as she scored thrice and recorded two RBI’s. She has now hit six home runs on the season.
The Gophers defeated the Terps 4-1 in the final game of pool play in the Baylor Invitational, setting the stage for their rematch in the semifinals.
Krapf and Delanie Cox had multiple hits and an RBI apiece to spearhead the Minnesota offense. Sydney Strelow had no hits, but she drove in two runs through a couple of sacrifices.
Maryland struggled to get the offense going and only collected five hits.
The Terps scored their lone run after Trinity Schlotterbeck tripled down the right-field line in the bottom of the third. Michaela Jones sent her home with a sacrifice fly, but the rally would end there following a Courtney Wyche strikeout to end the game.
Schlotterbeck pitched her third complete game of the season for Maryland and struck out six Gopher batters. However, she struggled to find a consistent rhythm and gave up eight hits.
Minnesota continued the momentum into the second game to the tune of a 5-1 victory.
The Maryland offense was stifled by a brilliant pitching performance from Autumn Pease. She pitched all seven innings, only allowing two hits and striking out six.
Wyche and Keira Bucher both pitched for the Terps, but neither was able to find much success, giving up nine hits to the blazing-hot Minnesota batters.
Krapf hit a ball out of the park for the second game in a row, and Addison Leschber batted in two runners to skyrocket the Gophers into the championship game.
The Terps scored their lone run when Megan Mikami scored off a Minnesota error.
