Maryland softball (11-17) hosts a four-game series against Penn State (4-19) this weekend. The schedule changed due to anticipated rain, so there will be a doubleheader Friday starting at 4 p.m. EST, one game on Saturday at 1 p.m. EST and the final game on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST.
The Terps struggled defensively and offensively against the powerhouse No. 20 ranked Michigan team. Sophomore pitcher Courtney Wyche had the best run against Michigan with five strikeouts in game two.
Maryland only had a total of 11 hits in the entire series against Michigan. Junior first baseman Regan Kerr slammed a home run in the first game. Junior second baseman Taylor Okada and freshman center fielder Jaeda McFarland were each responsible for two hits a piece in the series.
The Nittany Lions are coming off a 3-1 series win against Rutgers (6-22). Junior pitcher Kylee Lingenfelter recorded the win in the second game with four strikeouts and only allowed three hits.
Penn State’s offense was also on fire during game two. Redshirt senior designated hitter Kennedy Legg batted .500 with a home run. Junior center fielder Lilia Crouthamel batted 2-4 with a home run as well, and scored two runs for the Nittany Lions.
