Maryland (7-9) prepares to take on a tough Northwestern (15-1) team with a four-game set beginning Friday in College Park.
The Terps are coming off a losing series against Ohio State. However, look out for sophomore pitcher Courtney Wyche, who picked up a win against the Buckeyes in game two. Wyche had five strikeouts, no walks and only allowed two runs. Junior designated player Haley Ellefson produced offensively for the Terps, with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored in the second game against the Buckeyes.
The Wildcats are looking to continue their successful record after sweeping Wisconsin in their four-game series. Northwestern’s pitching was strong throughout. Graduate student pitcher Morgan Newport won game one with three strikeouts and no walks. Newport also won game two with one strikeout, one walk and no runs allowed. In game four, sophomore designated player Sydney Supple went 2-2 with a double and home run. Junior pitcher Danielle Williams also went 2-2, but with a triple and a single.
