This past weekend, Maryland softball (6-6) loses 1-2 in its three game series against Iowa (7-5). Maryland now has a winning average of .500.
In game one, the Terps barely lost to the Hawkeyes 0-1 in eight innings. Seven innings went by scoreless for both teams. Maryland sophomore pitcher Trinity Schlotterbeck recorded her first L of the season with two strikeouts, four walks and only one hit in 7.2 innings pitched. The Terps’ offense was not very alive this game despite junior catcher Gracie Voulgaris going 2-2.
Iowa senior pitcher Allison Doocy got the win in eight innings pitched. Doocy recorded 10 strikeouts with only three walks and no runs. The lone hit by the Hawkeyes was from freshman utility player Grace Banes. Senior infielder Aralee Bogar stole home and gave the Hawkeyes the lone and winning run.
The Terps beat the Hawkeyes in game two 3-2. Terps senior pitcher Jennifer Brann picked up the win with three strikeouts in a complete game. Junior infielder Regan Kerr hit her’s and the Terp’s first home run of the season, which also gave her one of the two RBIs she had in the game. Freshman infielder Michaela Jones hit a triple and a RBI. Redshirt senior outfielder Micaela Abbatine hit a RBI and scored a run.
Hawkeyes senior pitcher Lauren Shaw pitched the majority of the game, five innings, but senior pitcher Allison Doocy recorded the L. Doocy had two strikeouts, but allowed a hit and the winning run. Freshman utility player Grace Banes and junior outfielder Riley Sheehy each had a hit and a run.
The Terps fell short again by one run in eight innings, losing 3-4. Maryland sophomore pitcher Courtney Wyche took the L with seven strikeouts in 7.1 innings pitched. Senior outfielder JoJo McRae hit a triple and recorded two RBIs. Sophomore infielder Taylor Liguori also had a RBI.
Hawkeyes senior pitcher Sarah Lehman completed the game and ultimately won with three strikeouts and four walks. Freshman utility player Grace Banes had a hit, a RBI and scored two runs for the Hawkeyes. Freshman utility player Lindy Milkowski recorded two hits, two RBIs and a walk. Sophomore outfielder Nia Carter had a hit, stolen base and run in the game.
Next up, Maryland will face The Ohio State University on March 26-28 for a four game series in Columbus, Ohio.
