In their second road game of their three game trip, the Terps stayed undefeated in Big Ten Conference play with a 4-2 victory over Iowa in Iowa City.
The Hawkeyes got things started by scoring first in the 11th minute thanks to senior Natalie Cafone.
Cafone’s goal was one of only 3 shots the Hawkeyes manages to get off in that half.
Maryland’s offense was held relatively in check in the first half as well only getting five shots. But not before Maryland’s Sophie Pelzer tipped in a shot in the 22nd minute that tied the game at one. Grace Balsdon also continued her spectacular road trip so far as she knocked in her third goal of the road trip and gave the Terps a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute of the first half.
The Terps would hold on to this lead for the rest of the first half until the Hawkeyes came back with a goal from Cafone three minutes into the second half. The tie game would not last long however as the Terps offense punished the Hawkeyes goalie with 12 shots in the second half.
These shots allowed the Terps to keep up the offense pressure and not let the Hawkeyes get a chance to even things up on the second half. Linnea Gonzales ended up being the hero for the Terps as she netted 2 of the 12 second half shots to give the Terps their seventh victory of the season.
With this win, Maryland improves to 7-2 overall (2-0 Big Ten). The Terps finish up their three game road trip this Sunday at No. 11 Northwestern at 1pm.
