Maryland traveled to New Jersey Thursday night to face off against fellow Big Ten newcomer, Rutgers in a conference game. The team was in control the entire game and at one point led by 18 points. The women’s basketball team defeated Rutgers 71-59.
Maryland senior, Laurin Mincy grew up 20 minutes from Rutgers and was excited to play her first collegiate game in her home state. Mincy, perhaps played her best game of the season, delivering 24 points and seven rebounds.
Lexie Brown and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough each contributed 13 points. Late in the second half, Walker-Kimbrough suffered a blow to the face resulting in a bloody nose and being taken out of the game. Luckily for the Terps, Walker-Kimbrough was able to return to the game shortly after.
Brionna Jones had 12 points with 14 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the season.
With this win, the Maryland women’s basketball team moves on to 14-2 overall (5-0 Big 10) and remain atop the Big Ten Conference. No.8 Maryland returns home this weekend to face Illinois on Sunday.
