In the Terps’ final game of the 2015-2016 regular season, they could not pull the upset over No.12 Indiana, as the Hoosiers dominated the No.14 Terps in all facets, winning 80-62.
The Terps have now dropped four of their last six games of the regular season, which is not a promising sign for a team that hopes to make a deep run into March.
After having a lead as much as eight points in the early part of the game, the Terps watched the Hoosiers end the half on a 23-6 run and enter the break with an eleven-point lead.
In the second half, the Terps could not cut the deficit to any less than nine, as the Hoosiers cruised to a victory in their senior game.
Senior and star guard Yogi Ferrell scored 17 points for the Hooisers, as well as grabbing four rebounds and dishing out four assists. Junior Troy Williams would score a game-high 23 points for Indiana.
The Terps were led by Melo Trimble, who had a team-high 17 points. But the star guard was very inefficient, shooting just 7-17 from the field. Only two other Terps would be in double figures, with forward Robert Carter and center Diamond Stone scoring 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Terps have now lost twenty straight road games against ranked teams.
The Hoosiers, who are riding a five game winning streak, will be the number one seed for the Big Ten tournament, which starts Wednesday in Indianapolis. The Terps have locked up the three seed in the tournament, and will play at 9 p.m. on Friday.
As tournament time is around the corner, the Terps have not been playing their best basketball. For a team that had preseason ambitions of winning a championship, they must play to their full potential, which is something they have not done all season.
