After a Friday night loss on the road in Minnesota, the Maryland Terrapins (5-6-6) returned to game action on short rest as they headed into Madison to take on the #12 ranked Wisconsin Badgers (15-2-1) Sunday.
The two teams, both high in the Big Ten for fewest goals allowed, competed in a defensive battle for ninety minutes. Maryland sophomore Gabby Galanti did her best to make things happen for the Terps, but was unable to get past Wisconsin goalkeeper Genevieve Richard. A shot from distance in the 36th minute from long distance was saved nicely by the Big Ten’s leader in save percentage. Galanti drew a free kick for Maryland in the 63rd minute, but Shannon Collins’ shot from just outside the box was blocked away.
The Terps and Badgers found themselves deadlocked at zero through regulation, and played two overtime periods before a winner emerged. A Kodee Williams header off a corner kick in the 104th minute sealed a 1-0 victory for Wisconsin, and once again left Maryland searching for answers offensively.
Maryland junior goalkeeper Rachelle Beanlands posted an all around solid effort, and finished the game with seven saves, while Richard saw just three shots.
The Terrapins play their final game of the regular season Thursday, October 30th, as they travel to Happy Valley to taken on the Penn State Nittany Lions.
