Terps Make Strides in Practice Wednesday

The Terps continued to prepare for the upcoming season with a lengthy practice Wednesday afternoon in College Park.

Starting quarterback C.J. Brown looked great, and connected multiple times with wide receiver Levern Jacobs. Brown has been getting himself ready this year, by working out with coaches in the offseason, and getting his weight up enough to absorb tough hits he said. Brown’s work has paid off, as he looks much stronger in practice than he has in past seasons.

Head coach Randy Edsall has said multiple times the Terps are set at quarterback with Brown, but Maryland has several backups ready to take over the offense if needed. Backup quarterback Caleb Rowe did not look too sharp in practice Wednesday; he dropped a snapped ball early on in practice that he had to recover, in addition to multiple overthrows to various wide receivers.

Quarterback Shane Cockerille on the other hand looked pretty good, using his legs to break through holes created by the offensive line.

Position battles are still going on throughout the team at running back, wide receiver, and along the offensive Line.

Running back Brandon Ross looked good yesterday, running with fluidity and busting through seams for extra yardage. Wes Brown, who scored a touchdown in practice, and Albert Reid also looked good during practice.

Wide receivers Taivon Jacobs, Stefon Diggs and cornerback William Likely were all fielding kicks in practice, and it is believed that both Jacobs and Likely will share time at the punt returning position while Jacobs will solely field kicks.

After 11-on-11’s, practice went back to the position drills then some 7-on-7 drills. Right before practice ended, the coaches had players run ten-minute wind sprints across the field.

Following practice Edsall spoke to the media, and gave an update on left guard Evan Mulrooney, saying that he should make his return to the field soon. Edsall also informed the media that cornerback Alvin Hill was limited in practice on Wednesday. In addition, senior outside linebacker Alex Twine tweaked his ankle yesterday on a PAT attempt. Edsall says that he is currently day-to-day.

Levern Jacobs also spoke to the media following practice regarding his role among the wide receivers.

“I feel as if it’s up to me and Deon (Long) to lead this group of young guys,” Jacobs said.

Maryland’s next practice is scheduled at for Thursday afternoon.
