The Maryland Terrapins field hockey team defeated Rutgers University, 4-0, Sunday in Piscataway, N.J., thanks to a three-goal performance from Welma Luus and a score from Carrie Hanks.
The Terps scored early and often, with Luus’ first goal coming before three minutes of game time had elapsed. Luus’ second goal, assisted by Alyssa Parker, came near the 13th minute.
Hanks’ goal, the third Terps score of the half, was assisted by Linnea Gonzales. The goal marked Hanks’ third on the season and came as a result of a deflected shot after a corner. Luus found the back of the cage once more before the half, capping the Terps’ offense on the day.
Both Sarah Holliday and Jill Genovese saw time in goal, but it was the freshman Holliday who picked up the win, her 11th of the year. In their last three games, the Terps have outscored their opponents 6-0.
Maryland will return home to face Big Ten opponent Indiana on Friday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m.
