The Terps faced one of their toughest opponents on the road this week as they battled No. 11 Penn State up in State College. Maryland could not push across an equalizer, falling to the Nittany Lions 1-0.
Statistics wise, this game was impressive for senior goalie Rachelle Beanlands who notched 11 saves in the losing effort for the Terps. Even with a tough offensive attack from Penn State who got off 14 shots against the Maryland defense, the stuck together and held the Nittany Lions to zero goals in the first half.
However with the Maryland offense struggled to find the net, only recording one shot the whole game. The Penn State offense finally broke the scoreless tie as Nittany Lion player Megan Schafer scored off a deflected shot in the 77th minute of the match.
After the goal, the Penn State defense kept its shutout and edged the Terps for the victory. The Terps fall to (5-8-0) on the season and still have not won a game in Big Ten play. They try to change that Friday as they travel to Ohio State at 1 p.m.
