The No. 3 ranked Maryland Terrapins Field Hockey team started their season opener on a high note with a 4-2 win over the Temple Owls on Friday in Philadelphia, Pa.
Freshman forward Linnea Gonzales scored the first goal of the game. Redshirt senior forward Welma Luus followed up with another goal, with an assist from freshman forward Julie Duncan, putting the Terps in the lead 2-1 before the end of the first period.
In the second period Gonzales scored her second goal of the game, assisted by Lein Holsboer and Emma Rissinger. Senior midfielder Anna Dessoye capitalized on the lead, scoring another goal with an assist from senior defender Sarah Sprink. Goalkeeper Jill Genovese played the whole game, allowing just two goals.
The Terps return home on Sunday to take on Saint Joseph’s University at 2 p.m
