Maryland volleyball was again overmatched, struggling to regain composure after falling behind to No. 9 Purdue.
The Terps suffered another loss Friday night in a 3-0 sweep, their fifth during this losing streak.
Maryland got off to a 10-9 start to begin the first set, picking up seven kills and capitalizing on several service errors by the Boilermakers.
However, Purdue quickly found their footing on offense after going down, as they went on a 4-0 run.
The Terps, led by four kills from Ajack Malual, continued to hit at a great clip throughout the set but could not take the lead back from the Boilermakers, losing the set 25-19.
Despite being one of the best blocking teams in the Big Ten, Maryland did not get a single block in the first set and combined for only five the rest of the way.
The Terps really struggled to start the next two sets, getting themselves into insurmountable deficits that they could not come back from.
Maryland got off to a much worse start in the second set. The Terps committed five errors early on, leading to a 13-4 deficit.
Malual tried to get the Terps back into the game, picking up another four kills and adding a block in the set.
But again, Purdue held on to its lead and did not let its momentum slip, winning the set 25-17.
The third set had a similar start to the second, as Maryland struggled to establish rhythm on offense, falling behind 12-4.
The Terps put together a 4-0 run at the end of the set to make it 24-18, but it was too little too late, dropping the final set 25-18, resulting in another 3-0 sweep.
Maryland will face another tough test on Sunday when it takes on No. 18 Indiana.
