No.3 Maryland women’s lacrosse beat Hofstra 16-9 to improve to 6-0 on the season.

The Terps led wire-to-wire after a goal less than 30 seconds into the game. Lauren LaPointe led the way, scoring eight points with four goals and four assists. Kori Edmondson was right with her with six points, scoring four goals and two assists.

The attention turns to their Saturday matchup against James Madison (2-3) on Saturday.

James Madison

James Madison (JUM) has lost two in a row and has dropped out of the national rankings. Most recently, it lost to No. 9 Johns Hopkins by two goals.

The Duke’s other top 5 matchup this season came against No. 1 North Carolina, where they were dominated 19-11.

JMU went into the third quarter of their matchup with Johns Hopkins up by four, and that was due to Jordan Peterson, Lauren Savage, and Chloe Bleckley on the attacking end.

Peterson is currently the team leader in goals with 12 so far this season and tied for second with points with 13.

Savage and sophomore midfielder Bleckley each scored two goals against the Blue Jays.

Abigail Beattie was in goal for the Dukes against Johns Hopkins and played the whole game. But JMU has another goalie in its corner, Emily Evans, who has played in two games this season.

Beattie has a save percentage of 37.7%, and Evans currently sits at 30.8%

Maryland

Maryland has kept its winning streak intact and ahead of its matchup against a JMU team it has dominated all-time.

Edmondson has looked more like the version the Terps saw last season in recent outings. She ranks second on the team in goals and third in points.

Kristen Shanahan was also recently added to the Tewaaraton Award watch list — a list with the prime contenders to win the award. Shanahan has 11 goals and 11 assists, helping her teammates score while also getting the ball to the back of the net herself sometimes.

Maryland’s depth has been crucial to its success. Twelve different players have scored a goal, giving the Terps the luxury to not rely on one offensive player.
