No.4 Maryland Cruises Past High Point

By Connor Bell

It took a little bit longer for the Terps to get their season started, due to their previously scheduled game with Navy being rained out, but it was worth the wait. Maryland defeated the High Point Panthers 15-10.

The Terps were down early to the Panthers who took a 6-4 lead heading into halftime. But Maryland fired right back coming out strong in the second half scoring seven total goals in the third period and limited High Point to only four goals in the second half.

Maryland had three people who had three goals on the day: Colin Heacock, Bryan Cole, and Dylan Maltz. Senior goalie Kyle Bernlohr had eight saves on High Point’s 26 shots as Maryland won their 23rd season opener.

Maryland only had three penalties called against them all game, and capitalized on High Point’s four penalties. The Terps also had a huge advantage in shots, 50-26 which means they played with the Panthers well the whole game, they were just not being as precise as they would like to be with their shot selection.

The Terrapins next game comes against the Yale Bulldogs who won their opener against UMass Lowell. The game is in New Haven, Connecticut where the Terps also played them last year on in their second game of the season. Maryland will try and avenge their lost from last year. In that game the Terps only scored six goals and allowed the Bulldogs to score 10.
