No. 8 Maryland men’s soccer started like a house on fire as it took the Terps 46 seconds to put the ball in the net.
Midfielder Joseph Umberto Picotto bagged Maryland’s fastest goal since 2011 and the Terps never looked back. Maryland cruised to a 4-0 win over Ohio State on Saturday.
This victory marked Maryland’s fourth consecutive shutout and increased its unbeaten streak to 12.
Picotto’s early blow came after a scramble in front of goal after a cross by Forward Stephane Njike. Picotto’s half-volley just crept over the goal line before being cleared.
The early goal gave Maryland a cushion as sophomore goalkeeper Laurin Mack was able to anchor down his defense, which has not conceded a goal since September 26.
Mack recorded three saves and his seventh clean sheet of 2025, leading all Big Ten goalkeepers.
The Terps doubled their advantage in the 67th minute, when Forward Sadam Maseraka won a penalty. Maseraka then calmly converted the spot kick, which increased his goal tally to five on the season.
Less than 10 minutes later, Maryland hit the dagger.
Picotto sent in a delicious cross from a free kick. Midfielder Kenny Quist-Therson lept over the defense and headed home his first goal of the season in the 76th minute.
The fourth goal was scored from a fascinating frenzy of freshmen, as Henry Bernstein slotted home from close range off a pass from forward Rocket Ritarita.
With the win, the Terps matched a program milestone not seen since their 2018 national title run — four straight clean sheets — and have now outscored opponents 14–0 during that stretch.
Maryland returns to Ludwig Field next Thursday to host No. 20 Indiana, where they’ll celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 2005 national championship team.
