Maryland volleyball (9-1, 0-0 Big Ten) continued its dominance in the Quarter Invitational with its seventh straight sweep of the season against East Carolina (6-5, 0-0 American).
In three sets, 25-18, 25-15, and 25-21, the Terps dominated.
Maryland extended its winning streak to eight and surpassed its 2025 season total already — it won eight games last season.
The Terps put the pressure on early.
With 14 kills, four attack errors to East Carolina’s eight, and a 29.4% hitting percentage to .108 in the first set, Maryland put constant pressure on the Pirates to win the first set.
The second set started much closer, but the Terps’ defensive fortitude limited the Pirates’ chances. With five blocks to one, one attack error to 11, and a 47.8% hitting percentage to zero, Maryland dominated on both sides of the ball to win the second set.
The third set was the most competitive of the three, with the Pirates even having a 34.8% hitting percentage compared to the Terps’ 30.8%. In the end it was not enough to overcome Maryland’s raw athleticism and power.
Standout players like freshman outside hitter Brooklynne Brass and senior middle blocker Eva Rohrbach were major impacts for the Terps.
Brass, with nine kills, a team-leading 25 total attacks – season high – and 11 digs she created great offensive pressure while helping relieve stress on defense.
Rohrbach also had a night with 10 kills, a 71.4% hitting percentage – season high – and five block assists; she had incredibly efficient offensive output while contributing to the concrete wall that was the Terps front row.
Freshman outside hitter Ava Brown also made great contributions with nine kills, 18 total attacks and four block assists.
With Maryland’s 83 total attacks to East Carolina’s 94, 34.9% hitting percentage to 12.8% and nine total blocks to five. The Terps dominated on both sides to secure the win.
Despite the struggle against the Terps defense, Taryn Gilreath disrupted 31 assists for the Pirates.
The Terps have won nine of their first 10 games and have not lost a set since Sep. 2 against Arkansas. They will face Old Dominion on Saturday at 1 p.m. for their final nonconference matchup.
