Maryland men’s basketball rounds out its transfer portal class

After a disappointing 12-21 record in head coach Buzz Williams’ first season in 2025-2026, Maryland men’s basketball overhauled its roster through the transfer portal.

The Terps’ 12 wins last season marked a sharp decline from the previous year, when they finished 27-9 under previous head coach Kevin Willard.

In this transfer cycle, Maryland didn’t have to fill an entire roster, as it did last offseason. But it still had work to do.

Who Maryland brought in

Williams made six additions in his second portal class in College Park, according to reports and social media posts. Those additions include Robert Jennings III, DJ Wagner, Bishop Boswell, Tomislav Buljan, Michael McNair and Maban Jabriel.

The moves signal a shift toward a more physical, veteran lineup. The additions of McNair and Buljan will add physicality and size to Williams’ roster.

Buljan, a 6-foot-9 power forward, averaged 13.1 points and 10.3 rebounds for the New Mexico Lobos last season and announced his commitment on his social media on April 11. McNair averaged 16.9 points for Boston University and announced his commitment via social media on April 20. The pair is expected to anchor the Terps’ frontcourt.

Wagner spent the last two seasons at Arkansas. He averaged 11.2 points as a sophomore before dropping to a career-low 7.4 points last season. Despite playing fewer minutes last season, the Terps seemingly value his playmaking. He committed to Maryland on April 18, according to ON3.

The senior former No. 6 recruit in the 2023 high school class, according to 247sports is expected to start at point guard alongside Andre Mills. Boswell, a Tennessee transfer, reinforces the backcourt, coming off a season in which he averaged 6.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists. He posted his commitment to Maryland on April 15.

Jennings and Jabriel will boost the team’s interior presence with their veteran experience and physical statures. Jabriel is a 6-foot-9 forward who shot 43.2% from behind the arc last season and he posted his commitment on April 15. Jennings is a 6-foot-7 forward in his senior year.

The Departures

The departures were Myles Rice, Darius Adams, Isaiah Watts, Aleks Alston, Nick Blake and Jaziah Harper.

Rakease Passmore entered the portal on April 16, according to reports. But he expressed on X, “I am not transferring.” That said, Passmore’s situation remains unclear. Passmore missed the entirety of his would-be debut season after tearing his Achilles tendon in preseason.

Among the departures is Adams, who averaged 10.8 points as a freshman. Despite his status as a high-level prospect, Adams won’t be at College Park beyond his first year. The 6-foot-5 guard committed to NC State. He initially visited the program in 2024, but the Wolfpack have had two head coaches since.

The 6-foot-10 Alston is leaving after averaging 1.4 points per game in his Freshman year. Alston committed to UAB and announced on his social media

The Terps are also saying goodbye to the 6-foot-3 duo of Rice and Watts, as reported by ON3. The junior guards played 17 and 32 games respectively last season.

This means the three exits will cost the Terps some system familiarity and experience in the roster.

Blake entered the transfer portal on April 7, according to Inside Maryland Sports. Harper committed to North Dakota State on April 20. Both left the program after committing to Maryland a year ago and never played as freshmen.

Maryland’s roster will be different, but Williams and his coaching staff look for improvement through its offseason moves.
